Ideas

Me and Saifur have discussed our movie's name, we have decided to put "Saifur & Kyle" some where in the films name if we can. We are using our real names because I liked the idea when I was researching "Tenacious D in the pick of destiny", I told Saifur about the film having the characters named "Jack Black" and "Kyle Gass", the two actors real name in real life and he agreed that we should use our real names in the film. If we can't settle on a name for our film we wont include the "Saifur & Kyle" any where and just go with an other kind of name for the title, this could mean that the characters names will not be our names and also we will have to come up other different character names as well.

Movie Title Ideas take one

These movie titles are what me and Saifur have come up with, I have added my own as well to give us more of a choice when deciding on our movies final title.

Saifur and Kyle the movie(Yeah it's that Simple)
Saifur and Kyle and the great Mystery Machine
Saifur and Kyle vs. the World
Saifur and Kyle plus the problems they share
Saifur and Kyle in the great Muppet caper
Saifur and Kyle

Movie Title Ideas take two

These movie name ideas are references to films that are real. We have done this to give the movie a comedy feel to it, like we are spoofing the films title and also some elements of the  plot where we will add our own ideas. We will not copy the whole film, we will make sure that our audience knows we are spoofing the title and other bits so they know that we were meant to do this so they wont think we just copied, they will also know this because we might be able to  mention a reference to the film somewhere in the tagline.

Fun with Saifur and Kyle - Fun with Dick and Jane
Chronicles of Saifur & Kyle, the Liar, the Bitch and the Old War Dude - Chronicles of Narnia, the lion, the witch and the wardrobe

Character Names Ideas

We need names for the two main characters in the film, which we will play. As I have mentioned before we were thinking about using our real names for the film. These are some of my ideas for the character names

Saifur and Kyle
Ant and Alex
Jake and Lyle

Idea's for Poster

We have thought of many ways to create our posters.

Our first idea is to have a blank background and have a door with me and Saifur popping our heads out with a third character at the bottom. We discussed who the third character could be, our first idea for the third character is to have  a random person with a storm trooper helmet on, so it could be a funny yet silent recurring character, we got the idea from the Stig in Top gear, even though he doesn't say anything he can still be funny by his actions.

Our second idea is to have a space background and to make it look like we are floating around, with the earth in the background. Our title will be on the top and the tagline on the bottom  which would say "It's out of this world"

A good tagline we have come up with if we do the Paul Blart/Observe and report theme to the film which will be set in school, could say "Walk the Halls" then the date when the film comes out

Other taglines could say

There Halls, There School, There Rules

Schools Out/Schools Back

Sometimes rules have to be broken

We could also do what the Hangover did for there posters and have a quote from one of the characters but the quotes have to make it seem interesting and sometimes it has to make it look exciting even if it means misleading the audience to think something is going to be in the film when it won't. This will properly be the case with this film because it's just set in a school not like the Hangover where it has endless possibilities of the outcome of the movie because it's set in Las Vegas.

First Idea we came up with

We have managed to come up with an idea on what we could do for our media coursework. This page is to add more material for the idea and when we are finished this page end of this we can both see what we could use and what we wont use in the film it's self.

Our Idea is to have a trailer of a police mockumentary, which behind the scenes are idiots. The inspiration for the police theme came from the film hot fuzz, but the biggest inspiration for my idea came from the TV series Reno 911.

I thought of the idea when I seen a clip on Reno 911, this made me think that since we wanted to do something with a police theme but with the special effect holding us back, wouldn't it be good if we can explain that the reason for the shaken camera would be because it was a mockumentary and the cameraman would be running with us , if, for example, we were chasing a suspect. I told Saifur and he agreed that this should be one of our ideas.

Reno 911 has the same kind of elements that we could include in our trailer, but the camera style will be different.
When watching Reno 911, you can see that it's more like a mockumentary because of the characters interviewing other people in the street. This could be seen as an American police spoof of the office, because that is another show which interviews the staff and other people, we will be using this element from Reno 911 and the Office  but ours will have an effect where the audience will know it's supposed to be a like a camcorder and will understand when sometimes the camera will be shaken when filming the policemen on the streets etc.

The main question for us now is if we should we have American cops or UK ones. The reason why it's hard to decide is that we find the accent in America suits the roles of the whole comedy characters. We now have to decide if we should make it so American police offices have been transferred to the UK or if we should just have it so the police offices all come from Newcastle where it will be set.

Policemen and FBI agents in films

Bill Hader and Seth Rogen as Officer Slater and Officer Michaels in Superbad.  These two cops seem to want teenagers in the film to know that cops aren't that bad even by doing some crazy funny things which most mature adults are not supposed to do.

Simon Pegg and Nick frost as Nicholas Angel and PC Danny Butterman in Hot Fuzz. Angel is more serious at the start of the film but Danny gets Angel to become more fun and to not take his job seriously.

The mall security team in Observe and report. Seth Rogen is again on the right side of the law. While not being Police officers, they do try and act like they are throughout the film. From left to right John Yuen, Ronnie Barnhardt, Dennis and Matt Yuen. Ronnie is very attached to the mall by even angrily saying , I quote, "This is my mall!"

Paul Blart played by Kevin James, again another mall security cop but just like Seth Rogens character Ronnie, Paul also wants to be a Policeman and tries to act like one throughout the film. He's also very dedicated to his job, like saving it from terrorists who took over the mall even with his unfit, large figure.

FBI agents Kevin and Marcus Copeland disguise them self's as the Wilson sisters to protect them from a kidnapping. The two  brothers can be racist throughout the film, but also can joke on about their own race. Quote to from the brothers in disguise to their Boss in the hotel "What a Beautiful chocolate man"

Lieutenant Frank Drebin from Police Squad and the Naked gun films. He isn't really an idiot in the films, things just don't work out the way he wants, he always seems to mess things up or, as you can see in the picture never can say the right thing. "Move it along people nothing to see here".

From the film Rush Hour. Detective James Carter and Chief inspector Lee are joint together when Lee's friends daughter is kidnapped in America. Carter has been assigned the case and partners up with Lee. The pair are funny throughout the film because they can be laugh at each others ethnic backgrounds. For example when Lee is singing Carter says, I quote, "You sound like a Karate movie" as he is Asian.

Detective Axel Foley played by Eddie Murphy is another stereotypical black cop in films where he plays the cheeky, quick witted detective who can be serious at his job but can make jokes out of situations, just like James carter from Rush Hour or Kevin and Marcus from White chicks. From the film Beverly hills cop 1-3. With the 4th film coming out in 2012.

A movie of the series was produced, it still follows the characters from the series but this time set in Miami. The plot see's the bunch of idiots go to a police convention in Miami, but they turn up late and find out all the policeman in Miami have been quarantined in the building by terrorists and the only cops left to save the day are the Reno squad, but as any person can see, as there a bunch of idiots, you know what's going to happen, their going to mess up things along the way.

The reason why I am talking about the movie is for the trailer that is used for the film. This is something we want to achieve. From watching it me and Jack have decided what one of our songs for the trailer could be and that is "I fought the law" by Clash, which kind of has a police theme to it. This song will be towards the end of the trailer after at the start we establish what the film is and about as most trailers do.

After looking into what we could use and where the trailer can be set, I suggested to Jack that we should change the theme a bit so we can use the school, as we have easy access to it. So we have decided to still have that Reno 911 mockumentary feel to it but to make the characters Hall cops instead. I got the idea by looking at Paul Blart and Observe and report, one out of the two things they have in common is that they both try and act like Policeman but are actually not very respected mall cops.#

This makes our trailer easier to do because we can now use the school, we can do this after school when there is not very many people about.

This poster is something like what we want to do for our poster. This is perfect because it features two people and has the Mall cop/Police theme to it.

The pose they are doing makes them look serious and cool, the kind of people you wouldn't want to mess with. It definitely goes with the main character of the film, Ronnie is serious at his job, you can tell this by the poster.

We are taking elements from both Paul Blart and Observe and report, while Paul Blart deals with slapstick, screw-up humour, Observe and report deals with sick, twisted humour.

The two main characters of the two films have medical problems which is usually why they mess up throughout the movie, in some cases, Ronnie, from Observe and report has Bi Polar disorder which he needs to keep taking pills for and Paul Blart has a Hypoglycemia , this means he faints when he doesn't manage to eat any sugar.

On the Observe and report poster, these two are classed as the main characters because they are the most well known actors in the film. You do have others like Anna faris and Ray Liotta but since these two are the mall cops it's pretty obvious why these two are featured on the poster together.

This is the style we could use for our character posters, it is very much like the Hangover posters which I talked about for my research. This style on observe and report has Seth Rogen doing a sort of sign language to express the name of the film, this is done over two posters separating the films title. The other two film posters have Rogen again but this time he's doing a different pose in each one, but this time the tagline replaces the films title.

We don't know if we should go with this style or the Hangover style for our character posters, but we do know that for our main poster we will have both of us in it.
